Ramadan Contest 2026 - Rights and Responsibilities of a Believer
Description
This is a 3-credit course which will start on February 20, 2026 to March 12, 2026.
The theme for the contest this upcoming holy month of Ramadan is about the rights and responsibilities of a believer through the lens of Treatise of Rights (Resalat al-Huqooq) by Imam al-Sajjad (as). Learning about rights and responsibilities is essential for any Muslim seeking to live with integrity, compassion, and God consciousness, and the Treatise of Rights by Imam Zayn al Abideen offers one of the most profound roadmaps for doing so. This timeless work does more than list obligations — it teaches a holistic way of being, where every relationship becomes an opportunity to honor God through justice, gratitude, and ethical conduct.
By studying these rights, we learn how to navigate our duties toward our Creator, our own bodies, our families, our communities, and even our speech and actions. In a world where the concept of “rights” is often discussed in isolation, the Treatise reminds us that true dignity comes from balancing rights with responsibilities, and that spiritual growth is inseparable from how we treat others. Allah the Almighty states in the Holy Quran: “Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due and when you judge between people, judge with justice.” [4:58] Our Holy Prophet (sa) stresses the importance of observing the rights of others, as he said, “Every one of you is a shepherd, and every one of you is responsible for his flock.” This concise teaching captures the essence of moral responsibility in Islam: every person is entrusted with duties toward those around them, whether family, community, or society at large. It mirrors the Treatise’s message that rights are not abstract ideals but lived obligations that shape a just and compassionate life. Every relationship carries a moral weight, and honoring these rights is a pathway to spiritual refinement.
