Ramadan 2024 Contest - Akhlaq Merits and Diseases of the Soul
Description
This is a 3-credit course which
will start on March 10, 2024 and end on April 2, 2024.
The theme for the contest this
upcoming holy month of Ramadan is to gain a better understanding of how to
improve our Akhlaq (manners and conduct). The importance of polishing our
Akhlaq is such that Allah the Almighty chose the best of creation to be the
Seal of Prophets, Muhammad (peace be upon him and his progeny) due to his
perfect morals and manners, “Surely you stand on an exalted
standard of character.” [68:3] And the Prophet (sa) said about his prophetic
mission, “I was sent to mankind to perfect the
morals and ethical conduct of human behavior.”
There are two aspects to Akhlaq;
the merits of the soul, and diseases of the soul. We will learn about Quranic
verses, hadith, and stories that focus on each of the merits and diseases. Our
main source for learning will be derived from Forty Hadith by Ayatullah Khomeini (may God bless his soul), which is an exposition of ethical and mystical traditions. Over the
course of 24 days during the holy month of Ramadan, we will study 12 spiritual merits
and 12 spiritual diseases.
By the end of 24 days, we hope to
gain a better understanding and awareness of the importance of embracing these
merits and how to avoid and treat ourselves from these diseases if we are
affected by them. We hope by the end of the holy month of Ramadan to empower
ourselves with the best of manners that will shine us among our family members
and friends that even they notice a difference within us and are inspired by
our own change.
The best age range for this course
is teenagers and adults, however, anyone who feels mature enough to follow the
